VEGAN LEATHER: WHAT IS IT?

Updated: Dec 20, 2022

With the number of videos denouncing cruelty to animals, many people decide to revise their fashion habits. In recent years, vegan leather has been causing a stir in shop windows. Brands like Doc Martens,

Ralph Lauren and Marks and Spencer proudly highlight the "vegan" label on some of their products. But, what do you buy when you go for "vegan leather"?

This is where you have to be careful. There are actually enough

few brands that offer an ecological alternative to leather. In fact, most of the time, this is also the case for those mentioned above, the products offered are actually made of plastic. We talk about "faux leather" or "imitation leather", Doc Martens calls it the "Felix Rub - Off", and all of them are called vegan leather, but it is nothing but plastic.

Be careful, others talk about vegetable tanning. It is indeed animal skin, but tanned from vegetable products that are much less toxic to the environment than ordinary mineral tanning. This is what the Mansur Gavriel brand claims for some of its handbags. But these are still animal products

x and therefore no vegan leather.

But don't worry, finding an alternative to leather that respects both animals and nature is possible. You just need to know a little bit about the "tricks", and we're here for that.

The first reflex is to look for the "PETA - approved vegan" logo, which ensures that the brand in question is vegan and "animal-friendly". It is also possible to easily find the list of brands having obtained the label. Then, just look at the composition of the product, if it says "polyurethane" or "synthetic fiber", it is not biodegradable material, but plastic.

There is also cork, natural and ecological available in all kinds of items such as bags, fashion accessories and other vegan approved products offered by LIEGEGO

You will find a large selection of leather goods on the site: www.liegego.net
