history of backpacks:
From prehistoric times, our ancestors used containers to transport their belongings (weapons, food, etc.). A container that they carried at arm's length is the beginning of the bag, not yet the backpack but already a bag!
In the 11th century the peasants used wicker baskets to transport what they harvested, most of the time they carried them at arm's length and sometimes on their backs.

In the 17th Century, wooden frames were attached to the shoulders using leather straps. It was a kind of crate backpack that weighed a little heavy.
200 years later, a large leather bag hangs from the wooden frame and voila! The 1st backpack was born.
